Career Opportunity

             The Newark, Ohio Civil Service Commission will conduct an examination for the position of Police Officer with the Newark, Ohio Police Division.  The examination will be conducted in two parts.  The first part will be the physical agility test which will be conducted at Newark Catholic High School,   1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio at 8:00am on Saturday, June 11, 2011.  Applicants must pass all of the physical agility events to be invited to take the written portion of the examination.  The date, time and location of the written examination will be mailed to the applicants who pass the physical agility test events.  In the event of inclement weather, applicants are requested to appear at Newark Catholic High School to be advised of any change of date of the physical agility test.  Details of the events which make up the physical agility test are included in the application packet.

             The application packet must be completed and returned to the Office of the Human Resource Director for the City of Newark, Ohio, City Building, 40 West Main Street (first floor) Newark, Ohio.  The application packet must be returned no later than 1:00pm on April 26, 2011, together with a certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate (applicants must be at least twenty-one years of age as of June 11, 2011), proof of graduation from high school or equivalent and proof of being licensed to drive under the laws of any State.  Applicants must also submit with the application packet the Questionnaire form which must be notarized.  Applicants must be free of any disqualifying factors set forth in the Questionnaire form.  In order to be permitted to take the Physical Agility Examination applicants must submit a statement from their physician that they are physically capable of participating in the events which make up the Physical Agility Examination.

             Those wishing consideration for extra credit for military service must file with the Newark City Human Resource Department a copy of their DD214 Form showing that they have been honorably discharged from military service.  Those wishing consideration for extra credit because they have completed the minimum Ohio Peace Officers Basic Training Requirements must file proof of completion of the Ohio Peace Officers Basic Training Requirements, dated no longer than two years prior to date of appointment, with the Human Resources Department or proof that they are currently appointed as a law enforcement officer.

             Applicants must produce photo identification at the location and date of the physical agility examination and the written examination.
